I had a terrible foot infection, which, combined with my chronic lower back pain, made me immobile. My landlord came to my apartment and discovered how bad off I was. As I had been in the Navy, the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center took the initiative, and they knew exactly where I should go: Delmar Center.
The wound care was immediate—and showed immediate results, my foot infection beginning to heal right away. At the same time, the physical and occupational therapists put together a plan to improve my back. The Delmar Center team has been dramatically successful in both healing and strengthening me.
But they haven’t stopped there. I don’t want to lose my independence, and the social workers have arranged for me to transfer to the Albany Center for Independent Living, which is right next door. Thanks to Delmar Center, I’m ready to make new friends in my new home!

I had an iron deficiency and infections in my legs. I was very weak and struggled with anxiety. Then I got Covid-19 and recovery from that made it even worse. I knew I couldn’t care for myself, but the notion of leaving home for rehab was frightening. When I was admitted to Delmar Center, I discovered how important rehab was. The clinical team is very strong there, and they made me stronger. The social workers were thoughtful and compassionate, and they helped me overcome my anxiety. It became clear I needed a new place to call home, and once my wounds were healed, they found me just the place: Albany Center for Independent Living. I’m very excited about the new possibilities of my new surroundings—all thanks to the amazing team at Delmar Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

I was in terrible shape. I had been diagnosed with heart failure and was also struggling with wounds that just wouldn’t heal. When I was discharged and transferred to Delmar Center, I required a mechanical lift for all transfers. I felt helpless and hopeless.
My mood began to change as soon as I met the team at Delmar Center. At first, I relied on them completely—and they were there for me 24/7. And just as important as their medical and therapeutic excellence, they also had a positive attitude, which rubbed off on me.
When I arrived at Delmar Center, I was concerned that I would have to move into long-term care. But the team wouldn’t let that happen. I can now walk on my own with a walker and I’m completely independent. I returned home to my family just in time for Christmas! A great gift!
